Spring dress time

Finally, its time for the spring clothes. Just about anyway. I dug out my vintage linen sailor dress, and promptly busted a seam in the butt. Diet time. But I fixed it, wore it to work, and got an odd compliment from someone that it matched my hair (?).

The dress has a cute sash-tie thingy that was so fun to wear- it gave a great 30s feel to the dress, I think I'm going to try and make some- should be really simple. I'll do a tutorial if it comes out well.

Oh, and these are the photos of my new place- at least some of it. As you can see, I still need to hang my paintings (most of which were painted by my Great-grandmother. She was married to an artist at one point early in her life, and he taught her to paint. She was a wild lady for the 1920s.) Moving is so exhausting, its funny, the first thing in my new place and last thing out of the old is my wardrobe. Priorities right? :)

Farmer's Market

Yum. Farmers market goodness. This signifies that spring has definitely arrived! The top are my favorite rainbow sprinkle cookies. And those cherries were so sweet. Good to look at, good to eat!

A Sunday funday

Jumbo (My Mr.) and I went exploring today around town. We checked out the old Casino, built in the 1920s. Here's a shot of what it looked like in it's heyday:

It's scheduled to be demolished, which is kind of sad. This building and the one next door, an old theater from the 30s called the Miramar are both going to be removed to make way for a new shopping center. The center is really planned to be gorgeous, utilizing green and eco-friendly construction and spanish style architecture, but its too bad the buildings can't be saved.

So before they are gone, we took some photos. I got this dress from a little vintage store in Newport, which I frequent whenever I get paid! The brooch is from etsy, and I'm thinking of turning it into a necklace.

Oh and the boots are also vintage. I just love my ropers. So comfy. I wish I could wear them everyday, but I don't think that's exactly business attire!

Also exciting: Finally all moved in to our new house! I'm doing a paint by numbers painting collage on the living room wall, which Jumbo is skeptical about, but I think it'll look awesome. Also got my great grandparents furniture set! From the 30s and totally adorable. I'll post some pictures soon!

Ciao for now~ xoxo

HBO Grey Gardens

I know, I'm sure I'm a week late on the blog world with this, but did you all catch HBO's Grey Gardens? Drew Barrymore was great, Jessica Lange was amazing, but the costumes were insane! It was interesting knowing the details behind how Edie and little Edie got to that point in their lives. The Jackie O thing was kind of cheesy. Anyway, catch it if you haven't already! Or be like me and Tivo it so you can watch it in 30 minute incriments when you have a spare moment. Which I pretty much never do, hence my just finishing it on Wednesday night. Took me 5 days. So pathetic.

Also, I moved. Which means that I cleaned out my closet, but also that my life is discombobulated beyond belief. Once I get everything in order, I'll do some long long long overdue outfit posts.

Vacation- all I ever wanted...

Mini Vacation time for me and Jumbo! We're taking a 3 day roadtrip up the coast to Paso Robles. I went to school in San Luis Obispo, and I never took the time to go wine tasting up in Paso. Blasphemous, I know. Especially now that I work at a freaking wine bar. Anyway. So this weekend we're headed up to do a little golf, a little wine, and hopefully some fun stuff!

Hearst castle is about an hour away in San Simeon and I've always wanted to visit! For those of you that don't know, W.R. Hearst was a publishing magnate and congressman. He also was Marion Davies sugar daddy! He built a palatial estate in the 1920's in Ca. He lived there with Davies in pure jazz age opulence.

In the 20s and 30s many of hollywood's elite stayed at the Castle, including Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant, the Marx Brothers, Charles Lindbergh, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, James Stewart, Bob Hope, Calvin Coolidge, Franklin Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill. Can't wait to post some photos from this place.

Hopefully, we'll also hit a couple antique/vintage stores. The downtown area is a California historic sight, so it should be full of history. I sound like such a nerd! Don't worry, I'm sure I will be properly buzzed on wine at least one afternoon.

If anyone happens to have any recommendations for anything up on the Central Coast, please let me know!

Porter Hovey

Porter Hovey's photos are amazing. She is my new favorite photographer. And she has amazing style. Check out more of her photos at her website www.porterhovey.com. And her sister hollister has a great blog too, hollisterhovey.

Happy Easter Peeps!

I don't know where I got this picture but I've had it forever and it never stops cracking me up.

I can haz chair?

Sure, its a little bit wacky, but if you saw the white walls of the place I'm about to move into, you'd be into it too.

From, where else, Anthro. And I'll never be able to afford it. Sad face.

Mine.

Mwahahaha. Evil laugh? Why yes... I stole my dad's vintage doctor bag! Cue the thunder and lightening.

OK, I didn't really steal it, he knows I have it, but it's on semi-permenent loan. Meaning hopefully he forgets to ask for it back.

It's perfect- gladstone style, black leather, worn off in all the right places. And it is pretty neat that it's my dad's, an actual doctor, doctor's bag. If that makes sense.

Can't wait to do an outfit post with it. I've gotten a bunch of stuff off etsy and ebay, and once I clean out my closet, I'll be listing a ton of goodies, so keep an eye on the blog.

C-ya!

Purty Pictures

I'm uber into these Library of Congress photos on flickr right now. So neat to see the 1940s in color like this! Not to mention the clothes? Amazing. I don't know how anyone worked looking so perfect. I always look like a hot mess at the end of the day at a computer- I can't imagine what my hair would look like after riveting on an airplane wing. Yeeeikes.

Back to basics...

It's more strawberry than the photo shows. Waaaayyy easier. We'll see what happens when the sun and salt water gets to it :-)
